GERMAN INSTITUTE OF FOO TECHNOLOGIES

The German Institute of Food Technologies (DIL) located in Quakenbrück (Lower Saxony), is one of the innovative forces behind the food industry – on a national as well as international scale. The association was founded in 1983 and employs about 150 experts. DIL understands itself as professional partner of the industry. More than 140 associated enterprises rely on the institute’s competences. During the last three years, DIL has expanded significantly. In autumn 2011, new facilities including new laboratories and a plant hall (6.000m² additional floors) were taken into operation. In order to facilitate knowledge transfer from science to industry, DIL participates in different projects such as Hightech Europe (Coordinator), Food Future and further national and european networks.

Main role/competences

DIL is the coordinator of the project.

DIL has been chosen as RTD partner as the institute has excellent knowledge in:

  • Experience with shock wave technology and expertise in material science
  • Expertise in mechanical engineering (own engineering unit)
  • Manufacture custom designed, automated machines which comply with the necessary industry-wide standard is core business of DIL
  • Competences in project management and coordination

DIL has the following equipment and infrastructure available: Engineering unit, experience with development of shock wave technology and a discontinuous shock wave plant built up in a government-financed project (AIF/FEI 15884N).
